I have been a psychotherapist in private practice since 1986. I see a wide range of clients – couples, teens, and adults. My specialty is helping individuals who suffer from depression and anxiety disorders.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy that has as its focus an in-depth exploration of early relationships and how they can impact the present. In terms of approach, this type of therapy tends to focus on the interpersonal relationship between the therapist and client and is eclectic, utilizing different techniques from different schools of psychotherapy.
I have an MA from Columbia University in Social Work and an MA from the Jewish Theological Seminary in Jewish Studies. I received my BA in Literature from U.C. San Diego. I am the proud father of three children and have been happily married since 1986.
“It’s never too late to have a happy childhood.”
“There is no birth of consciousness without pain.”
“The more clearly you understand yourself and your emotions, the more you become a lover of what is.”
“The best way out is through.”
“Everything that’s beautiful is cracked, that’s how the light gets in.”
“All that is necessary to awaken to yourself as the radiant emptiness of spirit is to stop seeking something more or better or different, and to turn your attention inward to the awake silence that you are.”
"Robby's style is relaxed and pragmatic, with a good balance of taking things seriously but reminding us not to take things too seriously. He is good at helping us to see the absurd without really pointing his finger at it. My partner and I have been going back every year for a few 'tune up' sessions, and we love going back because somehow he helps us deal with tough issues but we just can't stop laughing throughout the session."
“This too shall pass.”
"I have been seeing Dr Markovic for over seven years and he has helped me tremendously! He guided me through a divorce, marriage and the birth of my son. I honestly don't know what I would do without him."
“Yeah, it’s been a ride. I guess I had to go to that place to get to this one. Now some of you might still be in that place. If you’re trying to get out, just follow me. I’ll get you there.”
“People will tell you where they’ve been, they’ll tell you where to go, but until you get there yourself, you never really know.”
"Once the realization is accepted that even between the closest human beings infinite distances continue, a wonderful living side by side can grow, if they succeed in loving the distance between them which makes it possible for each to see the other whole against the sky.”
Ranier Maria Rilke
What is Therapy Like?
Therapy can vary greatly depending on the individual and the goals of the clinician and the patient. Generally, I will want to discuss the event that lead you to seek therapy in the first place and move on to identifying more specific goals for the patient, working toward resolution.
